Bulldog Portrait

March 29, 2010 By Colleen Jorgenson 5 Comments

I think I’m finally over the whole ‘hacking’ thing. It was hard to even look at my computer for a few days, much less blog or work. This morning I’m feeling renewed & refreshed & ready to write.

While I was off my computer I painted. Painting always makes me feel better. It calms me down. I just love stroking paint on the canvas. It’s still like fingerpainting to me – watching the colors merge & change.

Anyway, I painted this bulldog portrait for my nephew last week.

Bulldog Painting

Here was the tricky part – I wanted it to be a surprise for my nephew, which meant I didn’t have any great pictures of Lester, the bulldog.

My sister-in-law, who calls Lester her ‘grandpuppy’, had pictures on her Iphone.

I could see most of his wrinkles, but I needed the eyes. When you paint pet portraits, it’s all about the eyes. And the nose. If you get the eyes & nose right, the rest is gravy.

I also went on my nephew’s facebook page to get more perspectives.

This was his little Christmas outfit. What a face!

But all of these pictures were low resolution, so I just did the best I could. I did email a pic to my SIL to make sure I had captured Lester’s expression.

Last time I saw him was last summer when he was still a puppy.

Now this canvas gets shipped to Atlanta. I’m hoping to get a picture of Lester in front of his painted image!

    love it! My hubby & and have always wanted a bull dog puppy, but we opted for a basset hound instead {she’s a MOOSE!}

    He is just gorgeous, definitely my favorite of all your paintings (that you have posted on Pinterest), followed by the cow (the one with the progress pics).
