The older I get, the more my five senses are like an emotional rolodex. Wheel of Fortune style. As opposed to Gangnam style.
Smell a particular scent, I’m back in my 30’s. See an old movie, when I was 40-something. Hear a song, high school memories. That, or my 40’s. That’s the wheel of fortune part.
I’m at the age where I now have memories of memories.
There’s a point here somewhere. Lemme find it.
Ah, yes. My point is, I like quotes. Sayings. Words, grouped together in a meaningful way. I gather them on my Pinterest board.
Well, at first it was just because certain phrases spoke to me.
I wish I tattooed this on my forehead when I was about 14.
Ok. Maybe not. It’d be a little hard to read at this point.
All kidding aside, I’ve been spending more time collecting quotes as I move forward with this whole being-a-grownup and art reproduction stuff. Greeting cards are a great avenue for a lot of artists.
At first I thought I’d write my own prose for cards because (flashing back to my preteens)a friend and I used to trade poems we’d written and others we loved.
It came so easy then, the words. Now, after living a memory-filled life, it should be even easier, right? Um, notsomuch.
Sandwiched in between all of those memories are these insidious things called judgments.
But wait . . .
This erased a lot of those self-doubts and judgments.
That and the assurance that no one will actually know if I, myself, wrote the prose on the card or someone . . . well, someone great wrote it.
Ah Ha! Confidence. Okay, maybe it’s confidence derived from camouflage. Or maybe it comes from the life I’ve lived so far.
Or maybe, just maybe, it’s from all of you, my fabulous readers, who take time out of your own lives to stop by and read my words and often write your own. Yes, I do believe that’s it.
Your comments inspire me, move me, encourage me. And give me confidence. Your words, creatively arranged. That make me ‘love what I do.’
So I’ll continue gathering quotes, phrases, and prose. For inspiration. For confidence.
And just maybe a giggle here and there.
