I know better.
I really do.
One would think a women of my, ahem, mature age would know better.
Once again I fell for the old line . . .
how hard could those be to make?
Those cute, adorable, yummy balls of cake/frosting/candy on a stick.
- Bake cake.
- Crumble cake.
- Mix frosting with cake.
- Form balls.
- Dip into melted candy melts.
Really? That’s it, I asked my computer screen.
And she nodded, yes, that’s it.
(You might be thinking if my computer talks to me there could be a little bit of a problem aside from the basic cake–pop-making ineptitude. And you’d be right.)
Ms. ‘Puter also told me to watch some YouTube videos first.
What does she know anyway?
Mix frosting into cake.
Um, okay . . . so when a recipe says form “little” balls, exactly how little is little? I’m a reasonably intelligent person (generally) but c’mon here.
Actually, I figured I did pretty well with my little-or-not-so-little balls. The recipe said “makes 48” and I wound up with 47.
Pretty darn close.
Dip in melted candy melts.
Houston, we have a problem.
Forget about trying to have a nice, smooth, round ball on a stick so you can draw cute little jack o’ lantern faces.
Huh-uh. Just try and get the ball – the obviously too big of a ball – to stay on the stick.
The second 24 were somewhat better.
Look. I only need ten good decent pops for the ten aerobics students coming over for a l’il coffee-after-class.
Out of 48.
I tried working around the ridges and bumps when drawing the jack o’ lantern faces.
Is it just me or are those pops laughing at me?
I think the pops have joined forces with the computer and are planning something . . . sinister.
It is almost Halloween, after all.
So I wrapped up the ten good decent pops, passed them out to my aerobic students, most of whom are totally unaware of Pinterest, thank goodness, and for the other 38 pops . . .
the wannabe pops . . .
They must be eaten, of course. Post haste!
(Totally kidding. I have a sweet tooth to rival all sweet tooths but these things are super sweet.)
Have you made cake pops? Got any tips? Better yet, have you tried something lately, thinking it’d be a snap only to find out it required some practice?
