Decorative Serving Tray – Stars & Stripes

June 10, 2010 By Colleen Jorgenson 19 Comments

Patriotic Tray

It’s almost that time of year when we start entertaining outdoors. Unless you like making tons of trips back and forth, you’ll want a pretty serving tray to carry all your goodies.

PatriotricTray

I actually forgot I had this tray. I found it on a shelf in my shed. I can’t even remember when I got it, but I know I picked it up at Michael’s for about $5. Once I got all the cobwebs off, I started to brush on some paint rather than spray it because it was raining.

PatriotricTray
Once I applied one coat of paint, it was clear it was going to take multiple coats. So I just set it aside for a few days until the sun came out and grabbed some red spray paint.

I probably should’ve painted the center too, but I was geared up for the canvas painting.

PatriotricTray

I started with a piece of artist canvas. You could also cut up an outdoor tablecloth, though.

But my plan is to paint different canvases for different holidays and just switch them out.
PatriotricTray
I had to cut it to fit, which was no big deal with a rotary cutter.
PatriotricTray
This was my 2nd design. The first was way too detailed – like I usually do – but I saw this on an election sign and went with it. Then I just penciled in a heart and a couple of stars.
PatriotricTray
This is the closest thing to Picasso I’ll probably ever paint. I was just looking for quick & easy.

I just added some squiggles sprayed it with a matte sealer. Now it’s easy to wipe clean.
PatriotricTray
The best thing is I can remove it and put a different design in it whenever I want.

I adore your patriotic spirit. It is red, white and bluetiful!

I hope you’ll stop by for my bbq on an Anthropologie inspired white tablecloth.
