Baby Boy’s Mural

February 4, 2010 By Colleen Jorgenson 9 Comments

My favorite thing about painting commissioned murals is the collaboration with the clients. I love seeing and hearing their ideas and then translating them into wall art – especially baby murals.

This couple knew they were expecting a little boy and chose Kidsline’s Antique Toys bedding.

It’s a darling motif with old fashioned cars, boats & planes. Kidsline offers some embroidered wall art, but they were a little too small.

Daddy is a paint contractor and already had the walls & ceiling painted the colors they wanted. Can I just tell you how much I love this guy? Rolling on paint is one of my least favorite activities,  next to sanding furniture.

First, they wanted clouds on the ceiling. No matter how many times I do this, it’s always a joy. People just seem to love clouds in baby nurseries. Now, there are clouds and there are CLOUDS. Baby rooms clouds are wonderfully simple, though. Quick ‘n dirty.

They chose 3 images for the walls. First, the airplane.

I added just some light clouds surrounding the plane. Can you make them out in this pic?

Next, the sailboat.

Some more clouds and a few gentle waves, just to set it off on the pale walls.

Here comes the piece d’ resistance. It’s so fun when clients want to really personalize their baby room mural.  They wanted to include their bulldog, Chase, in the mural. So why not have him drive the race car?

Here he is in front of his dog portrait.

Best of both worlds for me – painting a baby mural AND a pet portait. I have to say, I have the best job in the world!

Thank you, girls. I seriously need to do a video on painting clouds. It’d be a good beginner’s project. But my ceilings are all that acoustical junk. Hmmm, guess I could just do it on a canvas, huh?

OKAY… SOOOOO CUTE, NOT EVEN FUNNY!!!

I’m laughing, b/c I attempted (stress on “ATTEMPTED”!!) to do this to our ceiling in our Master BR when we moved in 7 years ago. It was…. well… a good attempt.

THE DOG in the CAR IS TO DIE FOR!!! I want to put this on my Blog (when I find a second to breath!!).

    LOVE IT!!!

Kat, you’re killin’ me. Listen . . . I’m a chronic DIYer. I usually look at something, figure I can do it, and expect it to turn out perfectly the 1st time. Well, not usually. So I get the cloud attempt. Really, I do.
Glad you love Doggie. One of my favs, too.
