Super Simple Butterfly & Dragonfly

August 3, 2010 By Colleen Jorgenson 5 Comments

Mural Maker & More
I rarely paint anything for myself. I have no idea why. You’d think my home would be full of artwork and cute furniture, but no.
My studio is actually the back bedroom of our house with an en suite bathroom. I love the bathroom because it’s about the only ‘girly’ space in the house. I painted the walls lilac last year, but you can’t tell from these pics for some reason.
I started this little project with Dollar Store canvases.

I primed with regular ol’ primer, not gesso. Then I basecoated them to match the towels in the bath.
I don’t know what I was thinking, but I forgot to take step-by-step pics. I always take those. It might have been because I was doing 3 projects at once.

Anyway, these were just really simple little guys. Mural Maker & More
I just mixed lavender and purple on my brush and did a couple of quick strokes, then outlined in purple.

The swirly things took longer than anything else. But I’m thinking I need to add some whimsy and play into my ‘too analytical’ life. Have you ever heard of an artist who’s too analytical? Well, now you have. I’m trying to go with the flow more and loosen up. After 52 years, it’s taking some focus.

I hung the little guys above the towel rack. Man, it needs to be refinished. Isn’t funny how things become really obvious in photos? If I were braver, I’d photograph my entire house. If, I said.

Now my little dragonfly charms that I hung on the towels have friends flying above them!
Okay, here goes . . . this is the 1st time I’m scheduling a post. Supposed to be really simple. I’m headed up to the cabin today (Monday) and will be back tomorrow night. If all goes well, this will post Tuesday a.m.
