Countdown to Christmas – Snowmen Patterns

October 6, 2010 By Colleen Jorgenson 4 Comments

I know, I know. You just got your Fall stuff up, right? And here I am talking about Christmas already.

102_3036

But this year, you’re gonna be ahead of the game. You’re gonna have the tree up, the house decorated, the presents wrapped, and you’re just gonna sit back and Enjoy The Holidays. Right?

We can always dream.

Seriously, though. Now’s the time to start painting projects for the holidays.

Oh, I used to be like everyone else . . .

Why do they have Christmas stuff up and it’s not even Halloween?

Until I worked in a craft store. Christmas for us started when it was over 100 degrees in July.

Crafters are a different sort anyway. Aren’t we?

But let’s just pretend we’re livin’ the dream of being totally on top of everything come December 1 – cookies baked, menu planned, and lots of handpainted decor proudly displayed.

C’mon – we can pretend, can’t we?

You don’t even have to use these patterns for painting, if that’s not your thing. Quilting, scrapping, whatever.

They’re yours for the taking. And they’re Easy-Peasy to draw. But I’ll post them as PDF later today if you really, truly think you can’t draw circles.

Basic Snowmen

102_3035

The basic 3-circle guy.

Freehand circles. You can do it. You can.

It looks better than tracing a round object and making it all perfect-perfect.

Two-circle snowman. This guy is easier to add stuff to later on – vests, jackets, scarves, etc.

Basic Faces –

more circles + a triangle

Are you with me so far?

See, I told you it was easy.

Which Hat?

102_3040

These are basic too, but we’ll get to where you can add holly or stars, or berries, or . . . whatever.

Remember paper dolls?

102_3041

I just cut them out. Poorly. Just to give you the idea.

Depending on what you use the patterns for, you can cut out the pieces you want, or transfer them onto paper.

So far, pretty boring, right?

I didn’t get to painting them yet – which is the fun stuff (for me, at least).

And, no, they aren’t going to painted all white. A little shading, a little highlighting.

But I did discover something along the way.

Take the basic 2-circle Snowman. Add a few extra lines. Turn the triangle downward, and . . .

You’ve got a Penguin! The same hats will work for this little guy.

So will all the other accessories I’m gonna try and draw today.

Or, I might paint.

Or, maybe I’ll write about feng shui.Or Dad.

Yeah, I’m still trottin’ in circles.

It’s how I roll.

Colleen – You truly make everything look so easy! Wanted to tell you that years ago, I actually used a photocopied snowman my then young daughter had drawn because 1. I thought it was charming (it was) and 2. I didn’t think I could draw a “better” snowman. Your instructions are top shelf! Thank you!
