Painted Tray Ceiling and Color Wash

July 26, 2011 By Colleen Jorgenson 1 Comment

We finished painting the tray ceiling last week.

And, I’m sorry to say, J-Lo has nothing to worry about in the booty department. It only felt like my backside was gaining muscle.
Which means I’ll have to rely on step aerobics and squats to gain some shape back there, ‘cause I won’t be painting another ceiling any time soon.
I hope.

It all started with this seating area that originally we thought we’d paint red. But then the clients decided the wanted the tray ceiling painted and didn’t want a blanket of red over the head every night.

So we opted for the gold paint – full strength – on this wall.

That little bit of color brightened and warmed the space at the same time. Of course, it helps that all of her accessories coordinated with the gold.

We took the same gold paint, mixed it with Floetrol and a little water and washed it onto the tray.

And by ‘we’, I mean Hubs.

If I had to do it, I’d still be there until September. Of 2012.

I just painted the leaves & vines. Gold with some red highlights.

See the rug? That was our inspiration for the leaves.

Just that gold color wash and little bit of red accent on the gold leaves tied everything together in the room.

So we took it just a bit further . . .

. . . into the dressing area. This is before.

And, after.

Tomorrow I’ll show you how easy it is to paint the leaves and vines.

Unless you want to paint them on your ceiling. They’d still be easy to paint, it’s just not so easy on your neck. Or shoulders. Or back.

Okay. I’ll stop.
