Dollar Store Gift Idea

December 2, 2011 By Colleen Jorgenson Leave a Comment

DollarStore-Christmas-Gift-

It’s December 2, so your house is probably all decorated, the presents are all prettily wrapped and displayed under your glistening tree and you’re calmly enjoying each day, trying out new Christmas cookie recipes.

AND, you stayed within your budget this year.

If that’s the case, then you certainly don’t need a gift idea that’s under $5 and will take about 5 minutes to make. And that’s just fine. But maybe you can pass this little Dollar Store decoration on to someone else. Like your mother-in-law. *gasp*

Maybe not then.

Ok. Just bookmark it for next year then, ok?

Supplies Needed from Dollar Store

  • oven mitt
  • wooden spoons
  • cinnamon sticks
  • piece of pine garland
  • ribbon

Actually, if you don’t have any garland or ribbon on hand and need to buy some, you might as well pick up two oven mitts because you’ll have enough supplies to make two decorations.

Okay, it’s as simple as stuffing everything into the oven mitt.

DollarStore-Gift-2

First, cram some balled up newspaper into the mitt to give it shape and act as an anchor for everything else.

DollarStore-Gift-3

Cut the pine garland into 3 pieces. They don’t have to be extra long – they’ll fill up the mitt and, with the newspaper, hold the other spoons and cinnamon sticks.

Next come the spoons. These were a little lighter than normal. But I didn’t want to paint or stain them just in case someone may want to use them.

Hey. You never know.

Then the cinnamon sticks. If they’re too short, just tape something to make them longer – skewers work great.

DollarStore-Gift-6

Two pieces of ribbon. Or more, if you like.

DollarStore-Gift-7

I basically just drape it around everything, twisting the pine around it here and there to secure it.

You could certainly add cookie cutters, ornaments, and anything else to dress it up for someone’s kitchen. (Or even you’re own!)

It’s quick, easy & cheap. Just in case you like quick, easy & cheap. For a present, people! Please! It’s the holidays.
