My Cow Painting’s Forever Home

December 21, 2013 By Colleen Jorgenson Leave a Comment

MayBelle

It’s rare once I finish a painting and ship it off that I ever see what it looks like in its new home.

When I painted murals, I’d see the room, of course, but not with all of the furnishings back in place.

Whether I paint a 9” x 12” canvas of a cow or a 18 foot long wall mural, I always want my art to be just part of the room. Not the showstopper or scene stealer.

That’s just not my style.

No, I want my art to add to the entire room, bringing personality or color or a theme or whatever it is that the owner wants from a painting.

Kellie at Nest of Posies got that and knew precisely what she was going to do when she commissioned the Cow Painting last summer.

Boy, oh boy, did she ever get that.

She told me the cow was going to hang on a gallery wall.

Ok.

In an ornate gold frame.

. . . okay.

On a wall that was to be painted black.

. . . Black?!? Ok.

I’ve never met Kellie irl but there’s just something about her, something that told me that she could pull this off.

I mean, it is Kellie’s Cow now, isn’t it.

That’s what I’ve called this painting since before I laid paintbrush to canvas . . . Kellie’s Cow.

I’ve never been particularly great about naming my paintings and figured Kellie would come up with something fitting.

I giggled as I watched Kellie’s social media followers suggest different names for the cow.

I think next time I paint a cow I’ll hold a Name-The-Cow Contest, just for funsies.

Of course, Kellie had the perfect name for her-

MayBelle

Isn’t that pretty?

Of course, I think it’s fitting because she now lives in Tennessee with her mama. If she was here in California with me, I don’t think MayBelle would have quite the same ring to it.

Maybe it’s just me.

Are names geographic? I have no idea but I bet someone, somewhere has done a study, and a bar graph, and probably a test to find out if your name matches your geographic location.

And it’s probably on Facebook.

Anyway, I’m just tickled that my cow painting now hangs on a beautiful gallery wall, in her beautiful new home, with her beautiful name . . .

And her beautiful mama.

Thanks, Kellie, for sharing MayBelle with Blogland, and for letting my paintbrush add a little touch to your home.

Make sure you drop by Nest of Posies and see the entire gallery wall. And when you’re there . . .

say hi to MayBelle (and Kellie) for me.

Smile
