Yes, I’m late again. Still. Whatever. It’s still October 19 and so, technically, I’m still on track with my 31 Days of Easy Holiday Paint Projects. Technically, ok?
I absolutely adore pomegranates. I like to eat them, paint them, or even set them around for decorating. Maybe with a little gold rub ‘n buff on for good measure.
For this tutorial I just made a video.
That’s because I’ve been busy working on the tutorial for a Fall or Thanksgiving Cornucopia.
Ok, so it’s a rough sketch but you can sort of get the idea of where we’re heading.
Yes, I said ‘we’. We’ve done pumpkins, apples, grapes, pears, fall leaves, sunflowers and now pomegranates. That just leaves the cat tails, wheat stalks and the horn of plenty basket.
I’m still debating whether or not to make a video of the entire project. So far I haven’t been that great at keeping the videos short. So I’m afraid this one could turn into an epic movie. ‘Epic’ meaning long, not ‘epic’ meaning majestic. Just so you know . . .
Anyhoo, in a day or two you’ll be armed with a full arsenal of Fall painting elements to create all kinds of fun stuff. And, yes, I’ll give you some ideas and layouts besides just the full-blown cornucopia. Promise!
For today (tonite?) here’s the printable for the poms.
As a side note, I found this old, very old, painting I did on a tray years ago. Like 10 years ago or so.
I usually don’t have my paintings hanging around but this beat up, broken tray was in the bottom of a box I was unpacking and I thought I might repaint it and use it as a shelf or something.
I can tell it’s ancient because I signed my name to it which I don’t do any more. I’ve always hated signing my work – especially my name. Now I just use my initials. Sometimes.
Anyhoo, the reason I’m showing you this is because I painted the center of the pomegranate with burgundy. You’ll see in the video I used a light yellow. Either one will work. Or you could paint the center yellow and then wash a glaze of burgundy over it too. That’d work.
And since I’m moseyin’ down memory lane, I thought I might as well share the very first ‘mural’ I ever did . . .
Don’tcha just love the electrical outlet right smack dab in the middle of my clay pot? And the brass switchplate! Ooooh – brass, yes! {enter sarcasm here}This was in 1995, a few years before oil rubbed bronze came back into vogue.
It’s not a great picture since it was also before digital cameras so I have absolutely no idea how I painted the pomegranates. I know I got the idea from a tiny stencil ad in the back of a magazine and for some reason decided to paint it on my wall.
Who knew 16 years later I’d be blogging about painting and making videos? (Obviously not me or I would’ve painted the outlet, lol!)
Let me know if there’s something else you’d include in the cornucopia . . . soon!
