I’m getting back on track with the BYOB (bring your own brush) & Paint classes. First up is this fleur de lis. It’s just like the Mardi Gras fleur de lis painting, only in neutral tones.
I wanted to make this a class project because it’s really fun to add dimension with shading and highlights. Once you do it, I think you’ll love it too.
This was painted really quickly today so some of these pics are off my phone, but I wanted you to see each step. (Nothing up my sleeve, ok?)
After painting the background, we’ll transfer the fleur de lis pattern, which I provide prior to class. Then we basecoat it. Next we apply one layer of shading, a bit darker than the basecoat.
The next shading is darker and then we add the highlights (on the right).
This last step is optional – adding shading to the background. To me it really adds to the illusion of depth.
Like all of my painting classes, no experience is required. You can read more about the BYOB & Paint classes here, as well as sign up.
If you’re concerned or bothered about being on camera, you can set it up so you can see me but no one can see you. Or you can always watch a video of the class. But it’s not nearly as fun, believe me. We have a great time – painting, talking, laughing. It’s so much fun.
I’ll have more classes scheduled in a couple of days. I’m also working on some Easter workshops. “Workshops” are simply paintings that take longer than 2 hours. They’re videotaped so you can go at your own pace and I’m still accessible by email and Google+ hangout for a live chat, if needed.
Hope to see you Thursday! Space is limited, due to G+ Hangouts, so reservations are on a first come, first served basis.
